Parent Advisory Network (PAN)
What is PAN?
This group was formed in March 2007 at the request of many newcomers to the East Lyme High School community, as well as other parents who had many questions on a wide range of topics and didn't know who to ask. Think of us as PARENTS HELPING PARENTS to navigate through the East Lyme High School years. It is not a PTO or PTA and does not require membership or dues.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month, including summer break, at the ELHS at 7:00 PM.
Any high school parent and ELHS staff member is encouraged to participate in any meeting to share their knowledge and experience. The meetings provide an opportunity for the school staff, primarily the Principal, to brief parents on the latest information relative to the school facilities (e.g., construction & associated logistics, safety & security), academics (changes, improvements, new course offerings, grade standings/testing demographics & statistics), staff issues & needs, affiliations/exchange programs, new ideas & student body issues, surveys, etc.
There are 3 functional committee groups: Connection & Communication, Programs, and Finance/Fundraising.
Some of the issues that PAN has successfully addressed, facilitated, or participated in since March 2007 are:
- Student Handbook uploaded to the ELHS Web site
- A comprehensive ELHS Student Directory is currently available through every parent's secure Edline account. Hard copies are available only upon request in the office for a nominal fee of $2.00
- Informative parent-to-parent conversations during Back To School nights.
- Provide support to ELHS staff at College Fairs hosted by the school
- Develop programs and topics for parents that address the many issues facing teens and parents today. These will range from open forums, to casual format, depending upon the topic, speaker(s), and interest.
Feel free at any time to send us topics you would like to see us discuss or any questions you may have.
The email contact is: elhs.pan@hotmail.com
We welcome any donations to offset any costs that may be required for endeavors of PAN throughout the school year.
